2 months

John Mark turned 2 months on Thursday. 2 months- WOW! Where has the time gone? It's pretty crazy! We went to the doctor yesterday. John Mark had to get his shots... he was very brave. Actually, he screamed and turned purple, but he does that when he doesn't want to fall asleep (or Micah tortures him with teddy bears...) so what's new? :) Here are his stats:
  • Weight: 15 pounds, 11 ounces (100%)
  • Height: 25 1/4 inches (100%)
  • Head: 41.2 cm (80%)
This is him during tummy time. I swear this kid is going to roll over any day now. If he hadn't had the hiccups when I took this picture, he would have gone on over!

Earlier this week Micah had a business trip. John Mark and I went to Central High for a few days while he was gone. We went shopping and got some new clothes (since John Mark is growing out of his 3-6 month clothes already...) We also had lunch with some of our family. John Mark got to meet his cousin Jace.

I don't have much else to post... life has been pretty uneventful here lately. He is sleeping in his crib for about 5-6 hours a night, which is wonderful... he pretty much only cries when he's hungry or keeping himself awake. I couldn't ask for a better baby!

a fun day

John Mark and I got to spend the day with our friends Emily and Eric Chastain today. Eric was born in May, but he was about 10 weeks early. He is a sweet boy and he's growing up to be so big! We ate some lunch at Pei Wei and then the mommas got to do some serious shopping. We got lots of cute things... Emily even found an adorable Halloween costume for Eric! I still don't know what I want to dress John Mark up as. Right now my vote is for this really cute cow costume I saw...

I think the highlight of the day was when we went in a shoe store and the lady asked us what the age difference was between the two boys. It was really funny when Em told them that Eric was two months OLDER than John Mark... we went on to explain that Eric was early and only weighed 2 pounds, 9 ounces... and that John Mark was, well, abnormally HUGE! :) Anyway, the lady thought that they were adorable boys- and we of course agree completely!

Emily, Mike and Eric are moving to San Antonio at the end of October. We will miss them very much when they are gone. Please continue to pray for Eric- he is getting bigger, which is such a blessing! He will still need a kidney transplant as soon as he is old enough. You can read all about Eric at his blog. The link is on the side of my page.

I guess that's all I really have to report for today. John Mark is growing everyday... I can't believe he's almost 8 weeks old... crazy! I also can't believe how much I love him- it grows more everyday!!

family weekend

Last weekend was full of lots of family things. Friday night we went to uncle Jeremy's birthday party. Saturday we went to dinner with more family. Then Sunday we went to a wedding shower. I think that John Mark just KNOWS when people are around and he shows off. He slept the entire day Sunday while we were at church and the shower. Then as soon as we got home, he just screamed! I think he needed to exercise his voice... :)

Babies do weird things. Take this for instance- we have all these really cool, bright toys that make noise to "engage" him when he is awake. So I will sit with him and he could care less about these fun things I am shaking around him. Then yesterday I was reading a book and he was sitting in my lap. The cover of the book is pink and purple. He couldn't get enough of it. He just sat and followed the book with his eyes wherever I put it... He also loves my hot pink cups...

I have also discovered the wonder that is BABY EINSTEIN! John Mark LOVES the one that we have. Yesterday he was being SO fussy. So I put him in his swing and turned on the DVD... instant silence. He just sat there and stared. Then he fell asleep. He fell asleep watching it this morning too. Now don't go thinking I'm one of those moms who is going to let the TV raise my child... it's just nice to have something occupy his time when I need to do important things... you know, like post blogs! :)

baby humor

We went to Central High this past weekend to celebrate my dad's birthday and grandparents day. Okay, so no one knew it was grandparents day until I gave them a card, but still! :) We had a good weekend. As you can see, he is starting to smile more and more. Every now and then, he'll laugh. You can tell that he isn't really laughing at anything- it's more that he has combined a smile with a noise that he makes. But it's still the dang cutest thing we've ever heard! And it melts our hearts every time.

Here's a couple of funny stories for you (and yes, Owen and Amanda- they involve poop!). On Friday before we left, I went shopping with Jamie. Let me set the stage for you- Jamie has a 6 month old little girl, Caroline. So her car is already loaded down with baby stuff. Then you get John Mark and me in there with all of HIS stuff... we were loaded down! Anyway, we hit Old Navy to do a little shopping. We of course buy more things for the kiddos than ourselves... but that's not the point. When we've finished roaming around the other stores there, we realize that neither baby has wanted to eat- and it's LONG overdue... and we're hungry. So we go to Target. We hook the babies into shopping carts in their car seat. And we're off. Now, have you ever tried to push a shopping cart with one hand/hip and feed a baby with the other? Let me tell you- it's pretty tricky!! So here we are, feeding babies and attempting to steer our carts. Then we take them out to burp them. I quickly realize that John Mark has pooped EVERYWHERE (like only he can do)... so now he has poop on him, the car seat and me. I take off to the bathroom to change him (there was nothing for me to do for myself at this point... roll the sleeves up in true mom fashion)... I come back to find Caroline has spit up a PUDDLE in the aisle and Jamie has cleaned it up with her burp rag. Now John Mark is grumpy and he won't sit in his car seat. At this point most people would have given up and gone home- do we? Of course not- we take turns holding him so we can try on clothes... then Jamie ends up pushing 2 shopping carts around Target while I hold John Mark. That alone is enough to make people think we're a little nutty... but the fact that we're laughing like maniacs didn't help... :) Maybe you had to be there, but it was the funniest thing that has happened in my world is a LONG time... it helps if you make a mental picture of what was going on!

This is a picture of my mom, nanny and me. It's 4 generations. You'll notice that John Mark isn't wearing his nice church clothes like the rest of us... that's because he had another HUGE explosion at church. I think he is trying to boycott dress clothes to be like his dad. Not that Micah poops on his dress clothes or anything- he just doesn't like to wear them.

Anyway, I guess that's really all the baby stories that I have for you. Right now he is crying in his room because he doesn't want to go to sleep... I guess that's something else he got from his dad... :)

nothing too interesting...

Let me start by saying this isn't a very interesting post. I just have a lot of pictures. We don't have any funny pooping stories. I know, I know- that's what you all come here for... I'm sorry- he just hasn't pooped at any inopportune times this week. Watch him poop everywhere now that I've typed that... :)

It's amazing how much a baby changes in one short week. John Mark is already so much more alert than he was a week ago. He's starting to smile more, and that's just the best thing. Nothing can grip your heart like your baby smiling at you, let me tell you. The picture to the left is my attempt at catching a smile.

On Friday, Aunt Tiff and Russell came over for dinner. John Mark had fun dancing to the Indian songs Aunt Tiffany sang, and we had some REALLY good spaghetti. It was a fun night... what can beat a really sweet baby, awesome food and making fun of Tiffany? :)

Saturday night Micah's parents watched him so that we could go on a date. Sunday was church. Here he is in his cute dinosaur outfit. He looked adorable! After church we went to lunch with Emily and Jeremy. John Mark was pretty good until the very end of lunch. Then we played "pass the baby" so everyone could finish eating.

Today we went to Crescent to see Micah's grandparents. They hadn't seen him since he was in the hospital. He was so good the whole time. In the end, he peed everywhere and had to change clothes. Nothing new there! Now he is sleeping soundly in his cute jeans. I have to post a picture of him in his jeans because my mom hasn't seen him in jeans and this is very upsetting to her... :)
