some funny stories

John Mark is getting way too big for his own good. He basically thinks he rules everything, and in some ways, this is definitely too true! For instance, he rules his grandmas without even trying. If he just walks up to them with his mouth open, he is guaranteed to get a big ol' bite of something- and probably something sweet 99% of the time. So when they're around, he doesn't even bother asking anyone else for anything. He just hovers near them saying "muah" (more) until he gets what he is searching for. And now for a couple of funny stories (and one not so funny one...)

Funny first- John Mark is getting really smart. What he doesn't realize is that in all his smartness, he's letting us know just how much he really does remember about what he can and cannot do. For example, we have a bookshelf in the living room that is off limits for John Mark. Anytime he goes near it, one of us will say his name and say "no, no" and he will run off. But almost everyday it is guaranteed that he will run over to the bookshelf and try to touch something- he doesn't want to pull it off, just touch it. I was operating under the idea that babies have a very short memory, so maybe he honestly just forgets from one day to the next. And then it happened... one day I was doing something and I walked over to the bookshelf and pulled a book from the shelf. In about 5 seconds John Mark had run to me, got down by my face and said "no, no mommy!" shaking his finger at me. So now I know- he KNOWS not to touch it. He just can't resist trying- every. single. day.

Yesterday Chris and Kelly came over and ate lunch with us. We had some shakes from Braum's and I didn't really think anything of it. When John Mark got up from his nap he was running around playing. And then I noticed that it was quiet- too quiet. The kind of quiet that just SCREAMS to you "something is not right..." and so I said, (with a little quiver of fear in my voice at what might be to come) "john mark?" He emerges from the kitchen with a face COVERED in ice cream. I walk into the kitchen and see a Braum's cup tipped over on the floor of the kitchen, peppermint shake now covering my floor AND my boy. The only thing I can think is that he has dug this from the trashcan and started chowing down. I fought the waves of nausea at the thought of drinking old trash-can shake and called Kelly to see if she knew what she had done with her shake. Fortunately, she had set it in the empty sack from lunch and he had found it there and not in the actual disgusting trashcan. 30 minutes of screaming and a bath later, John Mark forgot about the treasure that he had found.

And now the not so funny... John Mark lost my wedding ring. I took it off to put my hair stuff in my hair and as he was running around, he picked it up and did something with it. It hasn't made an appearance in a diaper, so I'm pretty certain that he didn't eat it. So that means it's hidden away somewhere upstairs. And let me tell you- he's hidden it well. I've gone through all of his toys and looked just about everywhere I can think to look... so if you see me without a wedding ring on, that's why. I'm not having marital trouble, I just have an ornery little boy who likes to hide things.

Thanksgiving

I hope you all had a very happy thanksgiving with friends and family. I know we had a great weekend. We got to spend thanksgiving day with Micah's family. John Mark was a big boy and sat up at the table with all of us. He even decided that he was old enough to use a spoon. Now granted, he picked up the mashed potatoes and PUT them on his spoon, but hey- you gotta start somewhere!

We also managed to get a really good picture of everyone. John Mark had a great day of eating (his favorite), playing, and then taking a nap. Emily and I were making a gingerbread train, and being all sneaky, John Mark reached up onto the table and pulled down one of the cookies and took a big bite. He was so proud of himself! It was a really fun day.

That night the Wehunts came over and hung out with us, and then I hit the Black Friday sales at 4AM with Kelly & Jamie. We had a lot of fun, rude people and all.

After a big breakfast of pancakes and sausage croissants with the Wehunts, we loaded up and went to big Central High. We spent the remainder of the weekend with my family. John Mark had a great time playing with BB & Poppy (he calls them that now and don't think their hearts haven't completely melted!). He also spent a lot of time chasing sugar ("shu-shu-er") and looking longingly at the Christmas tree. He played in the nursery at church Sunday morning and had a great time. He was so worn out from a big weekend that he didn't even make it out of BB & Poppy's driveway before he was sound asleep in his car seat!

On Saturday we ate lunch with the baby gang. This is probably my favorite picture that we took. It just seems to sum them up in a photo. And girls- next time let's get a picture of JUST the mommies. When we try to get one with our babies, well, it just doesn't work out! And we need to have our beautiful faces on here sometimes too!

We came home yesterday afternoon and put up all our Christmas decorations. John Mark is very intrigued by it, and I'm now taking guesses as to when he knocks it down... :o) I'm hoping that if we can make it past this first week then the new will have worn off and all will be well. When we came downstairs this morning he pointed at it and said "no, no!" and shook his finger, so hopefully I'm getting through!

Merry Christmas to everyone! Enjoy this holiday season and remember that it's all about God becoming flesh!

Love!

give thanks to the Lord, for He is good

Psalm 136 tells us to "give thanks to the Lord, for He is good- His love endures forever." The chapter goes on to give a list of thankfulness. So, on this day, the day of eating turkey, watching football and playing ridiculous board games I want to stop and give thanks. Thanks to the Giver of every good and perfect gift, the One from Whom all blessings flow- and let's face it, we have all been blessed, no matter how much or little we have!

My Jesus- He loved me. He saved me. He is walking beside me through each and every step of this journey of life that I am walking in. Countless times He has lifted me from the miry pit, setting my feet upon the solid rock. If you don't know him, you should really check Him out.

His love endures forever.

My sweet husband- As I like to tell him when I'm joking with him- "eyes wide open..." He fell in love with me and married me knowing my quirks- like my need to listen to the same song on repeat for days, or to spend money on ridiculous things, or... well, you get the idea. He is the rock of our family, and a man who desires to be more like Christ with every breath he takes and I know he will strive to love me with Christ's love as long as we live.

His love endures forever.

John Mark- what can I say? He is the most beautiful, special, precious boy in the whole world. I have fallen so completely in love with him. I just didn't see how it could be true that one tiny person takes hold of your life and completely changes you... but it is!! I can't even remember my life before John Mark. Just last night, Micah and I were wondering what we did before our crazy little man was around to entertain us every night. My heart is complete with this kid around.

His love endures forever.

My amazing family- I count myself so ridiculously blessed, and one of the biggest blessings in my life is the legacy of faith that I have the honor of being a part of. My family paved the path that I have walked with prayers and lessons about the One who makes life matter. My family has loved me unwaveringly and I couldn't love them more.

His love endures forever.

My beautiful friends- near and far, old and new... each and every one of you brings out a different aspect of my personality and makes me more of who I am. I know that I couldn't make it without you. You have spurred me on to a Christ-filled life. We have laughed, cried, watched movies, taken road trips, had babies, sang, danced, cooked dinner, shopped... so many different things. And I wouldn't give the world for the memories we have made. I love each of you with every bit of my heart.

His love endures forever.

I have so many other things to be thankful for, and I would go on and on for the rest of time and never be thankful enough. So I will end by saying that I am thankful for EVERY aspect of my life- both the good and bad. And I am thankful for each and every one of you. You have touched my life in some way, and I am better because of it.

His love endures forever.

the big first haircut...

That is true. John Mark got his very first haircut today. We went to a fun little place called Snip Its that specializes in children's haircuts. John Mark did very well. He sat mostly still, and only got upset when he couldn't reach the chicken nugget in his other hand while I was holding his head so the lady could cut the front. For all of you who are as in love with his curls as I am, don't worry. We didn't make a very drastic change- just a little shaping around the front and back. He looks very grownup and handsome with his new 'do!

please make way for the...

DRAGON!!!

I know you all have been anxiously awaiting the unveiling! We've had a big couple of days getting pumpkins, playing with friends and of course eating lots and lots of candy! I'll post the rest of the pictures later. Tonight I'm too tired!

10.22.2007

man, it's been a while

Where does the time go? There is no possible way that almost 1 month could have passed between my last post and today... Time sure flies when you spend your days chasing a 15 month old and a bunch of pre-k's!! So, to all my faithful readers (Mrs. Nease, Joan, Natalie, and all the rest of you I don't know about) I sincerely apologize for my blog slacking. I will attempt to update you all on our life the past month and not bore you to tears in the process.

As you can see, John Mark is getting way too big. He has graduated to running and tries to repeat every word that we say. His more recent conquerings in the word department are "belly button" (but if you heard it, you'd have no clue what he was saying... we didn't either for the longest time... the never ending digging under his shirt and ours finally gave it away), "night night" (both a word for going to bed, and his new blanket love), "happy", and he has covered both of his grandpas with "poppy" & "poppa". As you can imagine, his grandmas are just a tiny bit jealous. My mother is, of course, trying furiously to get him to call her anything. So far he just looks at her and gives her his ornery little grin, which I think she'll take just the same.

Now, as for what we've been up to since my last update. We went to Central High the first weekend of October and had a fabulous birthday party for our girl Jentry. She is way too cute and throws a great birthday party. This is a picture of John Mark with all of his buddies from the big CH.

That same weekend John Mark went to his very first Central High football game. Although, I think he was much more interested in eating Cheese Puffs from Eric than the football game. Let's just say that after hurricane John Mark blew threw, there wasn't a cheese puff in sight.

We also went to a Edmond Memorial freshmen game last Monday to cheer on one of the boys in our small group that we teach. John Mark had a fabulous time because he- a, got to flirt with the cheerleaders... b, got to eat a ring pop... c, got a cool memorial football from my friend Lesley... I say MY friend because for some reason John Mark has decided that Lesley is not his friend any more. Although with all the recent bribery from her, she is moving up on his list.

For example, last Wednesday it was our friends Brian & Dyanna's last Wednesday with us in the student ministry (yes, another one of our friends is leaving Oklahoma) so we had cake. By the time I had picked up John Mark from the nursery, there was no cake left. He was none too happy about that, so Lesley, in another attempt to make him love her, just gave him the spatula. This was the result.

All in all, it has been a great month. Life is blowing by at an ever increasing speed, and we're just trying to hang on and enjoy the ride. John Mark is the most precious gift we've ever been entrusted with, and every minute is a fabulous new surprise.
